Those present were: Elizabeth Matson, Eileen Roth, Patty Gannon, Eric Garcia, Caleb Winebrenner and Ruth Shaw. .
President Elizabeth Matson called the meeting to order. Announcements were made of current and upcoming activities related to storytelling. Those interested in receiving notices of upcoming events are encouraged to use the website: storytellermark.com.
Elizabeth then called for an ice breaker activity in honor of upcoming Mother’s Day, “Memories of Mother”. Fun and great memories were shared.
Caleb led off the storytelling with an improv story using the words: Sweet, Bumblebee, Roadster and Crash. The story was well presented and gave us a glimpse into the life on a farm in “Sweet Carolina”.
Caleb commented that he usually does not do personal stories. When telling this story he liked how he got into the sensory nature of the story and could channel his memories. Other appreciations included, his pacing of the story, his presence and the introduction was excellent.
Eileen then led our storytelling circle with a story she will use in one of her time management seminars. She gave us a glimpse into a couple’s relationship as they celebrate their anniversary with a dinner and a list made the previous year and reviewed at that dinner. Eileen made the couple believable. Appreciations included how well Eileen set the scene for her story and exposed us to their relationship using her craft.
A story from King Arthur’s time came to life when Elizabeth told her version of Lady Ragnell’s story. Elizabeth gave us a fresh perspective of this popular folktale. The story builds the character of Lady Ragnell and yes, we all did learn “What do women desire above all else?” Appreciations: Elizabeth’s facial expressions added much to the story. How Elizabeth revealed the characters of the story was excellent. Pacing and vocabulary were very good.
The next monthly meeting will be June 13, 2015, 10:00 a.m., Scottsdale Library. Respectfully submitted, Ruth Shaw Noble
